In any basketball game that results in a win, you can say that good defense played an inevitable part. Once you have reached the point that you would like to intensify all of your skills in basketball, there are several different factors surrounding defense that you need to make sure that you focus on.

1) Make Sure That You Keep the Level of your Body Low

By maintaining your body low, you will help to effectively balance and manage your body weight. The most important key is to make sure that you keep your head relatively low. Most basketball players out there want to stand so that they are erect however; the coaches really desire for you to crouch. In determining how low you need to be crouching, a really good word of the wise is to make sure that you are crouching lower than the individual that you are guarding. In turn, this will actually help you to move a lot more readily than your opponent.

2) Pay Attention to Hand Positions

Apparently, there are several different hand positions that you are going to have to pay very close attention to. A pass or shot can be deflected by allowing your hands to rise up. When you position your hands along your sides, it can greatly help your defense against passing, dribbling, as well as faking the ball. In addition to all of this, this is also a very easy thing to do and it would help you to retain your balance.

3) Get Yourself into the Bubble

In the world of basketball, there is something known as the bubble, which is basically a term that is used to describe the sphere shaped movement that basketball players have. In order to possess the ability to play a really good defense, you are going to have to both enter into your opponent’s bubble and make what you can out of the space.

As a basketball player, the efficiency of your movement is going to lie within your skill of intimidation. In the event that you are able to make your opponent worry that you are going to interfere with the next move he makes or that you are going to steal the ball the very next time that he dribbles, your opponent is going to be a little intimidated which therefore, you are going to hesitate. Once this has occurred, your opponent is more than likely going to decrease all of his actions that are in play, which will put a limit on all of his offensive moves.

4) Make Sure That You Are Just Close Enough

Merely, is basketball a game of moves and balls, basketball is affected also by all of the different mental battles that are known to occur in-between the minds of all of the individuals that are playing. You can affect your opponent’s ball handling by being a constant irritation for him. You should also be very mindful that you don’t necessarily always have to stand right next to the person that you are playing against. If there is even one trace of any hesitation on your part, it can work against you.
